Leicester City 2-2 Brentford
Match report by Brain Langston
A new season and a poor second half display condoned city to an opening home draw, against a Brentford side that in all purposes looked dead and buried after 46 minutes.
With city starting with a back 3 and two wing backs in JJ and Castagne, city from the off, produced some scintillating football, and looked up for the challenge that I was expecting Brentford to throw at us, but in the first half never materialised.
City piled on pressure from the word go, and we’re looking dangerous, but without clear and obvious chances being made, but had a string of corners, particularly from the left hand side, and eventually after 33 minutes, a corner was swung over and a glancing near post flick from castagne, found its way into the roof of the net, and city though-ally deserving to be one up.
The first half flew past, and the game was as hot for city as the temperature was .City dominated the half in all aspects, with Tielmans, and Fofana, outstanding, and the worrying thing for me, is Will they be at City when we go to Arsenal next Saturday ? .
The second half could not have started any better, when Vardy brilliantly held the ball up, under some Brentford pressure and the ball passed to KDH, who from 20 odd yards unleashed a thunder bolt, than was barely above grass height and buried itself into the bottom corner, 2-0, and yes this should have been game over, but this is Leicester, so, why should I have thought that.
The Brentford manager pretty much started to make changes, and I have to say, they did the trick, as they got back into the game with chances being created and after an hour, bang , Brentford pulled one back with a mix up in defence and Toney poked home from 6 yards.
Then after 70 odd minutes, another City manager blunder with substitutions, taking off the energy and workmanlike KDH, and bringing on Daka, when a formation change was the last thing city wanted or needed, especially KDH.
City did threaten, but with Fofana hitting a post and one or two other half chances, it was with , five minutes to go, Ndidi lost the ball, and this was not the first time in the second half, this time cost us, as previously a few minutes earlier a chance from the same player had just gone wide, this time Dasilva, cut inside from a static looking defensive unit and curled a twenty odd yarder into the opposite corner leaving Ward absolutely no chance.
So an opening draw, which is better than a defeat, but this feels like a defeat, especially as we are at Arsenal next.
My MOM today was Castagne.
